Whether you install your Vista x64 on a real or a virtual PC you need a license, if you are still going to carry on using your x86 version as well. The key you have allows you to use one or other but not both. I think if you're going to keep your XP, I can see no reason to keep the 32 bit Vista.

A user with an x86 version of XP Pro wants to upgrade to an x64 version of Vista, any version. And many folks are interested in x64 Vista. get the full version of Vista, either Home Premium if that will suite all your needs, or Ultimate if you needed certain features VHP doesn't have, and set up a dual boot.

You will end up with a dual boot setup and then you can delete the Win XP partition at your leisure. There has been some discussion on this NG that since upgrade pricing of Vista (even though it requires a clean install) is because you already own a copy of x64, your license to run x64 transfers to Vista.

Installing Vista on a partion other than C:\
It DOES work in XP Pro SP2 (x86) and XP Home. I guess I'll have to build a seperate gamebox with 98SE and XP Pro SP2 dual boot and forget about x64 on that one Maybe porting it to 64 bit vista is trivial and wasn't done yet just because they don't bother... or maybe they haven't release it yet or something.

If it will work like that, then my plan would be to install XP x64, then XP x86 and then Vista in the third partiton. That will be a 160g drive. Vista Upgrade Architecture Question
While I've never run the full Photoshop, I've been running Photoshop Elements (versions 2.0 and now 3.0) for a couple of years in a dual-boot setup. WinXP x64 is on D:, WinXP x86 is F:, Vista 5270 x86 is J:, Vista 5270 x64 is L:, etc. And E: is what I long ago named "Data", but it holds both apps and data.
